Last updated: 8 May 2026
1. About Iqra
Iqra ("Iqra", "we", "us", "our") is a personal Qur'an companion web application that helps you read, memorise, recite, and study the Qur'an. It is operated as a non-commercial, community-oriented service.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Iqra application, including any associated services, content, and features (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you must have your parent's or legal guardian's permission to use the Service.
You may sign in using Google, Apple, or an email address and password. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account and to keep that information up to date.
3. Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. In particular, you agree not to:
- Use the Service in any way that violates any applicable law or regulation;
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service, other accounts, or related systems;
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service or its underlying infrastructure;
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of any closed components beyond what is permitted by law;
- Use the Service to transmit malware, conduct attacks, or send unsolicited communications;
- Use the Service in a manner that disrespects the sanctity of the Qur'an or that would mislead others about its meaning.
We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for any user who violates these Terms.
4. The Qur'an, recitations, and translations
The Service displays the text of the Holy Qur'an. The Arabic text itself is sacred and is not subject to copyright. Translations, transliterations, and recitation audio are provided through public APIs and content from third parties such as alquran.cloud and Quran.com, and remain the property of their respective publishers and reciters.
The Service is provided as a study aid. It is not a substitute for learning from a qualified teacher.
5. Your content
"Your content" means any data you create or store through the Service, such as your memorisation progress, learning notes, settings, and completed lessons.
You retain ownership of your content. By using the Service you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and process your content for the sole purpose of providing the Service to you (for example, syncing your progress across your devices). We do not sell, license, or share your content with third parties for marketing.
6. Recitation and microphone use
Some features (Hāfiẓ Live and Drive mode) use your device's microphone. Audio is processed on your device by default and is not uploaded to our servers. If you choose to enable an optional cloud speech-recognition provider in Settings, audio segments will be sent to that third-party provider for transcription only, in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
7. Service availability and changes
We strive to keep the Service available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, with or without notice.
8. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Recitation feedback, scores, and learning suggestions are produced by automated heuristics and are intended only as study aids. They are not authoritative judgements of correctness.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event shall Iqra, its contributors, or its licensors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your use of or inability to use the Service.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you breach these Terms. On termination, your right to use the Service will cease and we may delete your account data after a reasonable retention period.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will use reasonable efforts to notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of your country of residence, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that country.
13. Contact
For any questions about these Terms, please contact us at hello@iqra.app (replace this with the operator's email when deploying).
